Leadership

OSS Maintainer
Prerequisites:
  • Commit rights to a repo

Responsibilities:
  • Advise on the overall direction and development of the project
  • Review Interns’ PRs after they were approved by the Tech Lead
  • Time commitment: 1-2 hrs per week
Technical Lead
Prerequisites:
  • Interest in learning and promoting best practices in open source software development
  • Experience teaching or mentoring in CS, DS, and IT related disciplines
  • Excellent communication, motivational, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical development of a project, including determining project requirements and creating a roadmap
  • Communicate the needs of an OSS project to the mentors and Interns 
  • Time commitment: 8-10 hrs per week
Project Manager
Prerequisites:
  • Prior experience in supporting technical projects

Responsibilities:
  • oversee the overall success of the project
  • Partner with the Tech Lead to optimize pod’s work 
  • Design processes and improve communication within the pod
  • Represent the pod to external stakeholders
  • Time commitment: as needed, up to 4 hrs per week

Mentorship

Professional Mentor
Prerequisites
  • Interest in helping students 
  • Experience teaching CS, DS, and IT related disciplines

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate the needs of the OSS project to the assigned Interns
  • Review Interns’ PRs Provide friendly and caring support to the assigned Interns
  • Meet with the assigned Interns at least once a week
  • Time commitment: 2-20 hrs per week
Student Mentor

Prerequisites

  • Recent degree (or near completion) at a partner academic institution
  • Completion of classes or work experience related to the objectives of the project


Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the needs of the OSS project to the assigned Interns
  • Review Interns’ PRs
  • Provide friendly and caring support to the assigned Interns
  • Meet with the assigned Interns at least once a week
  • Time commitment: 8-20 hrs per week

Internship

Intern

Prerequisites

  • Recent degree or current enrollment at a partner academic institution 
  • Completion of classes or work experience related to the objectives of the project
  • Proficiency in English


Responsibilities:

  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Attend project related meetings  
  • Time commitment: 15-40 hrs per week
  • Internship term: 12 weeks, with possibility of extension
